Dr. Molly shares how consistency is key for maintaining good skin habits, her favorite three-step routine designed for busy moms, and the importance of saying no to create a healthy balance between work and precious family time.

Tell us a little bit about you and your family! Where did you grow up? How long have you lived in the area? How many kids do you have?

I grew up in Lutherville, Maryland. My husband and I moved to Annapolis in 2017 to be closer to his family. We have two little girls, ages 4 and 1.

You are a board-certified dermatologist and founder of Current Dermatology and Cosmetic Center. How did you get to your career today? Tell us how you got started!

A lot of school and years of extra training- four years at Vanderbilt University undergrad, four years at UMD Medical School, four years of residency training in dermatology, and an additional three years of cosmetic training at a prominent Washington DC area cosmetic dermatology practice.

After my first child was born, I no longer had the time to commute to DC. I recognized the need for personable, accessible, and expert dermatologic care in the area that combined medical and cosmetic practices into one convenient location. I have worked hard to create a team that is dedicated to providing a superior patient experience and I am so proud of the group of providers and staff we have in the office. They truly care about each patient on an individual level and ensure every one of them feels important.

What are some tips for healthy skin and maintenance as a busy mom?

Don’t be intimidated to get a professional consultation to help you create a simple, realistic skincare regimen/plan tailored to your specific skin quality and goals. We are too busy to waste money or time on a bunch of things that simply don’t work.

For example, a simple 3 product skincare regimen and a single in-office annual collagen stimulation treatment are what most people would benefit from. Where the professional opinion comes in would be selecting those key products accurately for your skin type and narrowing down which in-office treatment is the best investment for you.

What's one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I sometimes “forget” to wash my face before bed. In all seriousness though, I am a big proponent of approaching skincare from a practical perspective.

Life is messy and you don’t need to be perfect to achieve great results. The goal is consistency, not perfection.

What’s something you love that’s just for you?

Chocolate on the couch watching a good show or reading a good book once the kids are asleep. I do it nightly.

Best mom hack that makes your life easier.

It’s relatively new for me, but I have been loving my Skylight calendar. It keeps the whole family organized and in sync. It also has fun “chore charts” to make helping out fun for my 4-year-old.

Name something you hope your children look back and remember about their childhood and you as their mama.

That they were loved unconditionally.

Best advice for mom guilt.

I want my children to grow into successful, fulfilled adults. The best way I can encourage that is to model it through my own behavior. To me that means pursuing my dreams to their fullest potential and showing them the meaning of hard work and determination. That being said, I have also worked hard on saying no to anything that isn’t a priority or takes away from precious family time.

What’s your favorite family activity to do in the area?

We love a good boat day. The kids enjoy playing at the sand bars on the Severn, rafting up with their cousins on a back creek to just swim around, or a sunset cruise listening to music and enjoying our beautiful city.

What have you learned from your children?

Patience, and when that runs thin, focus on repair. I am not a perfect mother, wife, or person, but my ability to give myself grace in these moments has improved since having children.

Greatest gift about being a mom.

Seeing the world through their eyes. Kids have such an innocent, inquisitive, and many times hilarious view of the world and it reminds me to slow down, appreciate everything around me, and be in awe of this amazing life.

Who has most influenced you to be the mom you are today?

My own mother. I never doubted her love or support and it has allowed me to succeed in life and in my career. I want to model that for my own children.
