Meet Shana Greenbaum, an Annapolis mom of two, wife, and the founder and CEO of Healthy Fresh Meals, a thriving home delivery meal prep and catering business. Shana's commitment to health started early, growing up with a professional bodybuilder mom and an active lifestyle in sports. After college, her experience in restaurants and catering, combined with her passion for meal prepping, led to a fitness journey that inspired her to launch her own business.
Today, Shana leads a team of professionally trained chefs who prepare nutritious, well-balanced meals for both adults and children. With menus that change weekly, Health Fresh Meals offers a variety of flavors and requires NO MINIMUM ORDERS OR SUBSCRIPTIONS.
Shana shares how she's a firm believer in growing a little every day, her top tips for balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship, and three surprising facts about herself!
Tell us a little bit about you and your family! Where did you grow up? How long have you lived in the area? How many kids do you have?
I grew up in Washington, DC close to Georgetown and Bethesda in Montgomery County. I moved to Annapolis with my husband in 2020, right before having my first child. I currently live near Spa Creek and have two kids.
You are the CEO of Healthy Fresh Meals, a home delivery meal service for busy families throughout the DMV. How did you get to your career today? Tell us how you got started!
I grew up eating very healthy since my mom was a professional bodybuilder, and I was heavily involved in sports. After graduating from college, I started working in restaurants and decided to challenge myself by competing in a fitness competition. Meal prepping became essential, and in the process, I got into the best shape of my life. When friends and family saw my results, they wanted to know my secret. Once I shared it with them, they all asked me to cook for them—even though I didn’t know how to cook at the time! With my restaurant background, I turned that demand into a business. Now, I love being a CEO—tackling the challenges of running a company, constantly improving as a leader, and finding new ways to grow and evolve the business.
What’s something you want everyone to know about Healthy Fresh Meals?
One of the most important aspects of my business—and how I market to customers—is transparency. I’ve never believed in eating a certain way for just one reason or another. To me, eating healthy—whether through my services or cooking for yourself—means using whole ingredients and enjoying everything in moderation. Portion control is also key, as many people have unrealistic expectations of what a balanced meal should look like.
Every meal I create incorporates vegetables and high-quality protein, ensuring both nutrition and satisfaction. I also love that we offer a diverse range of cuisines, making it exciting to try new flavors each week—flavors you might not have made for yourself. Our meals are also great for kids, helping expose them to different types of food early on. Honestly, it’s all my family and I eat, and I couldn’t be more proud of the product or the incredible team behind the scenes—many of whom are moms—who make it all possible.
How has your job shifted your perspective of Motherhood?
I've learned that work/life balance isn’t a perfect formula—it’s about making the most of each day as it comes. Being a mom has taught me how to prioritize what truly matters in both work and family. It’s been exciting to bring my kids to work and let them experience that environment. I look forward to the day they’re old enough to truly understand what I do and the passion behind it.
What's one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I used to figure skate for over 10 years competitively.
I studied Fashion Design in college in Los Angeles, CA.
And I speak Spanish!
What’s something you love that’s just for you?
Enjoying an iced coffee in complete silence, early in the morning (like 3:30 am early) when everyone is asleep and I can gather my thoughts and reflect on the upcoming day.
Best mom hack that makes your life easier.
Preparing outfits, lunch, and breakfast the night before so the chaos of the morning does not get in the way. ALWAYS have a snack or small object (one for each kid) to reach for when they start getting bored, this helps avoid screentime.
Name something you hope your children look back and remember about their childhood and you as their mama.
That they were loved and raised to care for and love others as well. That we did a good job preparing them for the world they will enter and take over one day.
Best advice for mom guilt.
Remember that you are a person, too, with needs, and it’s okay to take care of yourself so you can better care for others. As a child, I once believed my parents were perfect, all-knowing adults who had everything figured out. Now, I realize they were simply in the same phase of life that I am in today—learning, growing, and navigating challenges. Understanding that they had their own lives and struggles reminds me to be kind to myself.
Prioritizing my well-being isn’t selfish; it’s necessary. By taking care of myself, I can be healthy, whole, and present—raising my children with love, patience, and understanding.
What’s your favorite family activity to do in the area?
I love going to Quiet Waters Park with the family or taking early morning walks downtown in the Spring and Fall, watching the ducks, drinking coffee, and having the kids run around when it's quiet outside.
What have you learned from your children?
Grow a little every day (even when it's hard), celebrate small victories, cherish memories, and live life to the fullest.
Greatest gift about being a mom.
Being able to receive their unconditional love every day. In their eyes, you can’t do wrong, so I strive to be better every day for myself and for them.
Who has most influenced you to be the mom you are today?
The biggest influences on the kind of mom I am today come from both my past experiences and my personal growth. Watching my own parents, I’ve learned lessons—both in what I want to emulate and what I want to do differently.
Life’s challenges have taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of self-care so I can show up fully for my children. The love I have for my kids pushes me to be better every day, and seeing the world through their eyes reminds me to be present, kind, and intentional. Ultimately, my journey—filled with lessons, role models, and personal reflection—shapes the way I nurture, guide, and love my children.
